Home Schooling Special Needs Childrenby Debra Proctor
Special needs children - what children are included in this description? Well...that is up to you, but I would consider any child that has difficulty learning in to be in this category. Whether it's Down's Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, reading problems, auditory processing disorders, or vision disorders. For comprehensive advice on all types of reading difficulties, I can recommend Learning Disabilities Reading Tutor This topic is near to my heart, because I have homeschooled all four of my children, and guess what? All four of my children had some type of learning difficulty.
Now, before you begin to feel sorry for me, let me tell you how I look at this - I think it will help you too. I learned a long time ago not to ask God "Why?" when something went wrong, instead ask "What?" "Lord, I don't know why you have placed me in this situation, but I know you work all things for good for those who love you and are called according to your purposes. Please show me what you want me to learn from this and how to serve you through this situation." When you look at it like that, it's no longer, "poor, pitiful me" is it? Did I enjoy my children having learning problems? No... But you know what? It actually became a challenge. I was determined that no matter what, my special needs children were going to learn. What did I take away from all this? The knowledge that ALL CHILDREN CAN LEARN. Yours can too! If you have advice for other homeschooling Moms to support them in teaching children with Special Needs, please feel free to contact me by using the form at the bottom of the page. |
