Try these fun preschool curriculum activities to teach your prescholer math the fun way! When you first begin teaching your preschooler, one of the most important things you need to do is associate fun with learning. If your little bitty thinks learning and schoolwork is work or a chore, they won't do it. Make it fun right from the start by playing preschool curriculum activities and you will raise a child that loves to learn for life.
LOLLIPOPSSupplies: popsicle sticksgluesissorsmulti-colored construction papercoffee can
Directions: 1. Cut 3" circles from th e construction paper.2. Make 3 or 4 from each color.3. Glue a popsicle stick to each circle so they look like lollipops. Game Ideas for Lollipops: 1. Have your child do addition and subtraction problems with the lollipops. 2. Have your child sort the lollipops. Tell which color has more. Which color has less. Work on greater than and less than and beginning graphing. With a little imagination, you can use these preschool curriculum activities for all kinds of games. WIGGLE WORMSSupplies: Empty can (make sure the edge is smooth)Index cardsmarkerscontstruction paperglue or tape Directions: 1. Cut the construction paper so it covers the outside of the can.2. Write "Wiggle Worms" on the paper and decorate it by drawing worms or using worm stickers.3. Cut the index cards into 1"x1" squares.4. Write one number or groups of dots for the child to identify or count on each square.5. On five squares, draw a worm.6. The children sit in a circle and pass the can around.7. Without looking, the child draws out a square and tells what number it is or counts the number of dots on it.8. If the child draws a "worm" card, he yells, "Wiggle Worms" and all of the kids get up and wiggle like worms. You can play this with one child or as many as you want. Your child will love it when you wiggle like a worm :) VARIATIONS: You can also use the cards and these preschool curriculum activities to teach shapes or colors. SHOW ME!Supplies: Index cardsmarkersziplock baggies Directions: 1. Take 11 cards and write the numbers 0-10 on the cards with the markers. 2. You will need a set for each child that will be playing. PLAY: 1. Have each child spread out a set of cards in front of him or her. 2. Clap your hands a certain number of times. 3. Ask the children to "show me" that card. Variations: Let the children be the one to clap out the numbers while playing these preschool curriculum activities.
LuluMaterials: empty cereal boxconstruction paperscissorsmarkersgluetoothpicks Directions: 1. You will be using the cereal box to make Lulu. Cut a round hole in the box for Lulu's mouth. 2. Cover the cereal box with construction paper. 3. Make sure you leave the hole open for the mouth and draw on the rest of the features. 4. Make lollipops by gluing 1 1/2" circles of different colors of construction paper to the ends of the toothpicks. Play: Tell the children that Lulu is very hungry. Lulu wants to eat three lollipops. Let your child choose three lollipops and feed them to Lulu. Keep calling out numbers and let the children feed Lulu different amounts of lollipops. BLUEBERRY BUCKETSSupplies: Dried beans Blue spray paint Nut Cups Pipe cleaners Directions: 1. Spread the dried beans on a newspaper outside and spray with the blue paint. Let them dry, turn them over and spray the other side. 2. Write the numbers 0-10 on the sides of the nut cups. 3. Cut a pipe cleaner in half and attach to the nut cups to make handles. Play: Ask the children to "pick" blueberries and put them in the right cups (3 blueberries should be in the "3" blueberry bucket)

CONCENTRATIONSupplies: Index cards cut into 10-30 3" piecesMarkers Directions: 1. Write numbers on the cards - Write "1" on two cards, write "2" on two cards etc. Play: Turn the cards face down on the table. Let your child turn two card over at a time. If the cards match, he gets to keep the pair. If the cards don't match, he turns them back over and tries again. The game continues until all the cards have been matched. If more than one child is playing, the one who has the most pairs, wins. By using these preschool curriculum activities, you can teach your little preschooler that learning math is fun and you will both have a great time.
