Shapes & Colors
Use these preschool curriculum activities to teach your preschooler his shapes and colors. These are easy to make and quick to play -- your preschooler will love playing them and spending time with you.
Preschool Curriculum Activities for teaching color and shape LOLLIPOPSSupplies: Popsicle sticks Glue Scissors Multi-colored construction paper Coffee can
Directions: 1. Cut 3" circles from th e construction paper.2. Make 3 or 4 from each color.3. Glue a popsicle stick to each circle so they look like lollipops. Play: Have the kids sit in a circle. One child is "it" and skips around the circle while all the children sing: "Lollipops, lollipops, yum, yum, yum.Lollipops, lollipops, yum, yum, yum.Lollipops, lollipops, yum, yum, yum.Please come over and give me some." (Tune - Skip to My Lou) When the child stops, the child she has stopped in front of closes her eyes and draws a lollipop. She then opens here eyes and names the color. Play continues until all the children have had a turn or until your child has named all of the colors. FUNNY FACESupplies: Construction paperMarkersGlueScissors Directions: 1. Take 9 sheets of construction paper and draw a shape on each one: Circle Star Triangle Rectangle Heart Oval Square Diamond Moon
2. On a another piece of paper, draw a "funny face." 3. Lay the pieces of paper on the floor one at a time and have your child name the shape as you go. Help if needed. 4. Now have your child turn away and you hide "funny face" under one of the shapes. 5. Ask your child to name the shape "funny face" is hiding under. 6. Continue doing this until he finds "funny face". 7. Then he gets to hide "funny face"
LuluThis is an especially fun preschool curriculum idea. Kids just love "feeding" Lulu! Materials: empty cereal boxconstruction paperscissorsmarkersgluetoothpicks Directions: 1. You will be using the cereal box to make Lulu. Cut a round hole in the box for Lulu's mouth. 2. Cover the cereal box with construction paper. 3. Make sure you leave the hole open for the mouth and draw on the rest of the features. 4. Make lollipops by gluing 1 1/2" circles of different colors of construction paper to the ends of the toothpicks. Play: Tell the children that Lulu is very hungry. Lulu wants to eat Red lollipops.
