Behind the Green Glass Door

by Nichole
(McHenry, Illinois, USA)

This educational game works best for students above 4th grade. It helps them with spelling and recognizing patterns.

Tell your kids, "We're going to play a fun game called Behind the Green Glass Door. There are many things behind the Green Door, and I want you to tell me what some of them may be.

Are you ready? Behind the Green Glass Door, there are trees but no leaves. There is grass and there are streets, but there are no houses. Can you tell me something that is behind the Green Glass Door?"

The "rule" is that only words with double letters can go behind grEEn glaSS dOOr. At first, this will take a while for your kids to catch on. Once they do, they like to play this over and over and it really gets them thinking and trying to out-smart each other.

Some rules:

Have them guess in this form: Behind the green glass door there is _____, but no _______.
Answer: There is __________ and _________ behind the green glass door.

Example:
Behind the green glass door there are mommies but no daddies.

There are mommies and daddies behind the green glass door.

If they are really stumped, make a list of the things that they say that are/are not behind the door. This usually helps a LOT.

Have fun! Kids LOVE this game.
